Parenting in today’s world is a complex and courageous task, especially when it comes to issues of sexuality. As parents, it can be an uphill battle to share your values when we talk about relationships, body image, technology, and so on. Exactly when and how do we start talking to kids about this? Join us for an evening discussion on how to share your values as the primary sexuality educator for your children. We may come from many different faith traditions or no faith tradition at all; but we all have values that guide our lives. Dr. Kate Ott’s talk will include information on children’s and teen’s sexual development and faith development as well as current research on what works to help kids put their faith values into practice.
An author, professor and parent, Dr. Ott wrote Sex + Faith: Talking with your Child from Birth to Adolescence. She is Assistant Professor of Christian Social Ethics at Drew University Theological School. She holds a doctorate in Christian Social Ethics from Union Theological Seminary (NY) and a Master of Arts in Religion from Yale Divinity School.
